Empower your Kids! A Coaching Guide for Parents by Judy Bartkowiak

Parents have a natural and automatic desire to rescue, protect and shield their children from difficult situations. Parents want to show their love by stepping in and helping wherever they can: with homework, bedtime monsters, the dark, new experiences, making friends…

But by rescuing our children, are we helping them to build their self-esteem? By stepping in and fixing things, we communicate that we don’t think they can do it on their own. We make them think they need us. What if there was a better way?

This book will give parents the skills to guide their children to find their own solutions and to create new possibilities. These tried and tested coaching skills, drawn from the author’s vast experience of working with parents and children, will give children choices. It will give them a positive mindset, and a ‘I can’ attitude. If we can show children how to fix things for themselves, then we set them up for a lifetime of independence, and confidence in their own abilities.

I am Judy Bartkowiak and I’ve been mad about kids for years! I must be – I have four of my own and a granddaughter.

My first job was as a Children’s Qualitative Market Researcher, running focus groups with children on TV shows like Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Noddy and loads of great fun toys and books. You pretty quickly learn how to connect with children when you have a client breathing down your neck I can tell you!

When my own kids were young, I combined this work with running a Montessori Nursery School in my home. I didn’t teach in the school as I’m not Montessori trained but I bobbed in and out to join in whenever I could.

Once my children were all safely in primary school, I trained in NLP and no end of other great techniques including EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), PTT (Picture Tapping Technique) and Matrix Re-imprinting  (including birth and past life).  I am now an NLP Trainer and EFT Trainer.

Some of my clients prefer the more practical aspects of CBT and I have a great number of CBT exercises and worksheets that I use with children to challenge the connection between their thoughts and feelings. What if we could choose our thoughts? Well, exactly! Some children are more ‘in their heads’ and like to keep thought diaries and challenge the thoughts they experience from situations they find stressful or cause them anxiety or depression.

I work from home (just like pretty much everyone else these days!) on the Bucks/Berks borders. I also work a great deal online.

I am the author of Teach Yourself books; ‘Be a happier parent with NLP’, ‘NLP Workbook’, ‘Self-Esteem Workbook’ and ‘Secrets of the NLP Masters’. See the  Books Page  of the website. I also wrote the series of workbooks ‘Engaging NLP’ which offer practical ways to integrate NLP techniques and skills.

I work on these type of issues:Picture

  • Anxiety
  • Fears and Phobias
  • Trauma including birth trauma
  • Identity
  • Self esteem
  • Relationships
  • Limiting beliefs
  • Communication and social skills
  • Eating disorders
  • Addictions
  • Depression

Children learn through play and art, using their imagination to create new possibilities and choices. It can be fun getting to know yourself when you’re a child!
