Parents DO influence their kids – particularly Mums 2 Comments Helen Neale on January 9, 2012 at 12:07 pm Hi there, Sue. Peppa Pig is avoided in my house, not because of any worries about copying behaviour, but more because it drives me nuts – but that’s just me probably! my kids watch it (when I don’t flick through the channel fast enough) and understand the difference between what happens in a cartoon and what happens in our house 🙂 I am sure that this is the case for most parents as well, even though the little boy is two, he can learn to understand with the help of mummy what its acceptable and what is not. My little boy is now four, and my girl is six. They have watched it, and I don’t think they are turning into little pigs! Both of them read books with me where there is inappropriate behaviour, and I just engage with them and ask them what they think of that – and generally they realise that’s not what they should be doing. “I don’t like Peas” is one of my daughter’s favourite books, has been since she was about three. And she herself LOVES peas; nevermind what Emily thinks! I’ll listen to your views later, will be fascinated to hear 🙂 Reply sueatkins on January 9, 2012 at 4:47 pm Hi Helen – it’s a tricky one isn’t it negotiating what our kids watch but it’s all about what feels “right” for you, not anyone else! I use everything from headlines in the news to TV programmes to talk and teach my kids about my values, my views and I ask them about their thoughts and opinions too – as my kids are older now. Thanks for talking the time to post up – watch this space ! Reply Submit a Comment Cancel reply Your email address will not be published.
