How a cuddle can stop children descending into a life of crime !

A Coalition-backed report published today warns how many parents, particularly those on low incomes, are “ill-informed or poorly motivated” when it comes to raising their children.

It recommends that a national parenting campaign – primarily aimed at pregnant women – should be launched to give all children “healthy, stable and strong social and emotional foundations” in the early years.

I met MP Graham Allen who led the government report, last year when I was invited to the House of Commons and I was so struck by his deep committment to the importance of  helping parents understand how important emotional bonding is  in the Early Years – through talking, touching, smiling and cuddling.

For me it’s never about finger pointing and all about holding out a supportive hand to parents regardless of their family background, income, or age.

Kids don’t come with a handbook and sometimes younger parents don’t have very positive role models so anything to help, teach, guide and inspire parents to be the best they can be is a great idea in my book.
